New Delhi: Travellers flying in and out of Kolkata could face flight delays of over an hour from next month as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to recarpet the runway there. And the flights getting delayed there would in turn lead to consequential delays on the other sectors also they have to operate on due to late departure of aircraft from Kolkata.
AAI officials held a meeting with airline officials on Wednesday and apprised them of their proposal to recarpet Kolkata airport runway from November 1 that will reduce the hourly aircraft movement capacity by half to 12.
All the airlines protested against this date given suddenly as they had just finalized their winter schedule and the changes in Kolkata would mean substantial changes in their schedules. They said this could leading to cutting flights to Kolkata and taking care of passengers who are booked on them either by giving refunds or trying to fit them on the truncated flights to the City of Joy.
