Trichy airport faces space crunch after two flights were grounded

Trichy: The Trichy International Airport has been facing space crunch as the state government is yet to take a call on land acquisition and expansion of the airport. The authorities were given a wakeup call after two flights developed technical snags while landing at the airport in the last couple of days. Aircrafts landing at the airport were cautioned to avoid any accidents.

The aviation authorities said an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur was grounded for two days after it developed a technical snag. The flight that had over 140 passengers landed here on Saturday. Engineers here were unable to rectify the problems, and spare parts were brought from the head office to replace them. It left the airport at 6.30pm on Monday without a single passenger onboard and only cargo. Passengers left in another flight in the night.
