Mumbai: More than 10,000 schoolchildren from across the country will go on their annual educational tours in the coming weeks. Unlike the previous years, though, this year's tours will be marked by unprecedented chaos as airline winter schedules have clashed with the students' itineraries. The changed flight timings have hit the travel plans of around 3,000 students and led to last-minute logistics and accommodation problems of a severe magnitude.
A case in point is that of 190 tickets on two MumbaiJaipur GoAir flights booked by a tour operator for travel on October 30 and 31. "When we booked in July , the Jaipur flight was scheduled for a 10am departure. In the winter schedule, though, it has a 5am departure. It's not possible for get 190 kids and teachers to report at the airport before 4am. GoAir did not even bother to inform us about the change," alleged Anil Garg of Tour India Travels.
Garg is one among several travel agents across India who have found themselves doing frenetic last-minute bookings and cancellations. What has made the task an onerous one is its scale.
