New Delhi: It may spur real estate and land prices in the surrounding area of Bhiwadi
The aviation ministry has given its initial clearance to set up a second airport in the proximity of IGI at Bhiwadi in BJP-ruled Rajasthan preferring it over SP-ruled Jewar near Greater Noida, for now.
The site for the airport lying along the Delhi-Jaipur highway may spur real estate and land prices in the surrounding area.
The proposal by Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMIDC) to set up the airport has been approved amidst controversy over allowing a second airport within 150 km radius of the existing IGI airport.
"The ministry has given initial approval to the Bhiwadi airport, which would primarily handle cargo. Anticipating saturation of existing airports in the next few years and based on a study of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the decision has been taken," a senior aviation ministry official said.
