Chennai airport stands high: AAI

Chennai : Airports Authority of India has stated that Chennai airport stands 46th position globally in a 33 parameters survey conducted by Airport Service Quality (ASQ).  

Responding to reports appearing in certain section of media about a survey stating Chennai airport being one of the worst, Airport Director Deepak Sastri in a release on Tuesday said, 'The ASQ survey is  conducted on quarterly basis at 220 odd airports all over the world. The survey considers 33 parameters to assess the satisfaction level of passengers on a five (05) point scale. When such is the case a news item, that appears from nowhere dents our spirit, more so when it appears in the trusted and leading newspapers of India. There are number of on-line polls conducted, without any locust standi. '

The airport official further said that setting up of multi-level car parking and a secondary runway is facing challenges in Chennai. These issues were posing a hindrance include delay in privatisation for three years and lack of manpower for operating new international terminal among others.

'The Chennai airport development plan is on hold since 2012. The development plan is incomplete in all spheres -- the city side multi-level car parking, modification of old and new terminals and under utilisation of secondary runway for want of additional land from State government', he said in an official release.
