Female pilot on round-the-world solo trip stops for Gujarati thali

Ahmedabad: Tracey Curtis-Taylor, a Canadian adventurer who is on a round the world trip, made a pitstop in Ahmedabad tempted by the Gujarati cuisine. Tracey landed at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Wednesday. She flew in from Karachi in her vintage open cockpit aircraft, and is almost halfway through her roundtrip. Talking to Mirror, she said that her trip is part of the celebration of 75th anniversary of aviation pioneer Amy Johnson's solo air trip. Amy Johnson was the first female pilot to fly from Britain to Australia solo.

Seventy- five years later, Tracey is trying to emulate Johnson's flight, following almost the same flight path except avoiding a few sensitive spots in the Middle East. The 53-year-old said, "My trip is a bid for women empowerment and to encourage women to join the aviation field." Tracey plans to cover 13,000 miles in her 70-year-old open cockpit aircraft and has completed almost half her trip. She said, "I am almost half the way around the world. So, I plan to relax in Ahmedabad for couple of days and enjoy the food here which is quite famous in our part of the world. I will also like to spread create awareness on women empowerment."
