IAF conducts exercise at Babatpur airport

Varanasi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted a 'hit and go' exercise at the air strip of LBS International Airport here on Monday and Tuesday in which several fighter planes were involved.

The first-of-its-type exercise began at the civilian airport on Monday. Airport director D S Garia told TOI, "The fighter planes of IAF hit the airport for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. As per the schedule provided to the airport officials by the IAF, the 'hit and go' exercise will continue till November 8."

Garia made it clear that as this airport has no additional space to use as hangars for the fighter jets, there is no possibility of making a temporary base here. Thus, this airport is being used for hit and go exercise only, he added.

He, however, did not elaborate about the type of fighters involved in the exercise.
