Indian budget carrier adding Chennai-Bangkok route

New Delhi: Indian budget airline SpiceJet on Wednesday announced it is launching direct flights to Bangkok from the southern city of Chennai from Dec. 10.

This will be the carrier's second flight to the Thai capital and will operate six days a week. The first one started last year from the eastern city of Kolkata.

The Kolkata route has received an "excellent" market response, and the new one will help the airline connect passengers from other parts of India to Bangkok via Chennai, Shilpa Bhatia, senior vice president and head of sales and distribution at SpiceJet, said in a statement.

For the new route, the airline is offering a round-trip fare of 9,999 rupees ($152.6) for a limited period and number of seats.
