Need an absolute ban on laser beams around IGI, say officials

NEW DELHI: Security agencies at Indira Gandhi International Airport were on high alert on Sunday night after CISF officials stationed at a watch tower spotted a laser beam. However, no flights were disrupted.

On Wednesday as well, the pilot of an incoming Air Vistara flight from Bhubaneshwar had complained to ATC of a laser beam interrupting landing at the airport.

Around 8:30pm on Sunday, a CISF sleuth deployed at one of the watch towers reported a laser from southwest Delhi's Kapashera area. "It was spotted once for about 15 to 20 minutes. Our staff informed the department as well as Delhi Police. However, no flight interruptions were reported by the air traffic controllers," said a senior CISF official.
