New Delhi: Passengers travelling from Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International airport are being subjected to undue delays, especially during peak hours, due to the shortage of workforce handling immigration.
According to airport officials, the Bureau of Immigration has deployed a limited number of workers at the counters which is creating severe passenger congestion over the past two weeks.
Passengers are missing their domestic, as well as connected flights due to the delay caused at the immigration counters. According to sources, the Immigration Bureau (IB), of late, has increased the number of counters from 45 to 60 but there are no operators handling the counters. Also, there has been a system up gradation which could be another cause for the delays. Agencies will take up the issue with the Aviation secretary in the coming week, sources claim. A meeting has been scheduled with aviation secretary R N Choubey, where the issue will be addressed.
