Imphal: Two frontline Sukhoi SU-30MKI combat jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Tuesday landed at Imphal International Airport where they stayed for about 20 minutes.
A source from the airport said that the combat jets landed around 10 am and took off after staying at the airport for about 20 minutes. However, the source could not confirm the reason behind the landing of the combat jets.
The source believed that the jets might have been landed there for a trial. None of the authorities in the Manipur government was ready to disclose the reason behind the landing of the combat jets.
Another highly reliable source said that combat jets of the India Air Force used to land in this airport occasionally and this was not the first time the Sukhoi SU-30 which has also been inducted at IAF’s airbase at Tezpur of Assam. Manipur government has the knowledge about the landing of the fighter jets, the source that refused to divulge the reason behind the combat jets coming to the border state.
