NEW DELHI/NOIDA: Putting the Greater Noida versus Agra debate to rest, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Union ministries, saying his government wants to build airports at both places.
But while there is no harm in the CM taking such an initiative, the feasibility of having two international airports not too far from Delhi - Agra is 210 km from the Capital and Greater Noida's airport site at Jewar around 80 km - is sure to be closely looked at.
"My government is ready to develop airports in both Jewar and Agra. Our authorities have sufficient funds to make necessary arrangements and buy land for the projects. But we want the support of the Centre. If the Centre gives us support, then our development authorities have sufficient funds," Yadav said after inaugurating the UP pavilion at the India International Trade Fair in New Delhi on Monday.
