Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of customs department on late Friday night caught Rajkot-based Dalsi Chauhan with 600 grams of gold worth Rs 15.6 lakh at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Chauhan had arrived by SpiceJet flight SG-016 from Dubai on Friday night. She had concealed six gold bars in her shoes.
This is the second case of smuggling this month.Further investigations are on. Since the value of smuggled goods was below Rs 20 lakh, Chauhan was not arrested. Gold bars have been seized by the customs department.
Since January 2015, 40 cases of smuggling have been detected at the city airport and around 46.650 kg of gold, worth Rs 12.18 crore has been seized by the customs and DRI. Also, 42 smugglers and carriers have been detained this year.
