Two commercial flights operated from naval air station INS Rajali, Arakkonam, on Sunday. INS Rajali is functioning as a make-shift airport since Friday.
“Nearly 250 passengers were flown in two aircraft operated by TruJet in the morning and evening. Both the planes were bound for Hyderabad. No other airlines operated from the naval air station on Sunday,” Captain S.K. Kuruparan, spokesperson of INS Rajali said.
Officials said a few airlines operated from INS Rajali, though a number of persons were waiting to board flights from the naval air station.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had given clearance to operate six flights including of Air India and private airliners on Friday.
