Madurai: The newly-installed aerobridges at Madurai airport became operational with passengers of a Spicejet aircraft using one of them for the first time on Tuesday.
A young girl, Inbamani Priscilla, who landed from Mumbai, formally inaugurated the new facility in the presence of Airport Director Kuldeep Singh Rishi. The aerobridges were part of the modern terminal building that came up at a cost of Rs. 129 crore.
The officials had given provisions for three aerobridges here to give a direct passage for the passengers from the terminal building to the aircraft and vice versa without having to use coaches.
The Airports Authority of India sanctioned two aerobridges for now. The installation work started in January and was completed a few months back. However, the aerobridges could not be used for want of safety clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
