With some organisations accusing Air India of using the runway works as a ruse to pull out its major flights, the airliner has said that its large aircraft will return to Calicut Airport once the works are over.
The Calicut Chamber of Commerce has said in a statement that Air India let down passengers by allowing them to book seats in its Jeddah and Riyadh flights for March 2016, and then said that these flights would not be operated from Calicut.
Air India officials said that the airliner had not announced opening of bookings for the two flights that are now being operated from Nedumbassery near Kochi. It was a technical issue that had led people to believe that online bookings had resumed from Calicut to these destinations.
The bookings open date of March 28 had appeared by default. March 28 and October 28 are the dates that appeared by default every year. Now, this would be rectified in the case of these two flights, the officials said.
