The increase in tariff had been proposed to fund metro connectivity to the airport, but delay in determining the new rates has postponed the hike till 2016. Airport regulator AERA has issued an order staying any increase in tariff imposed on air commuters by the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) until February 28, 2016. MIAL had sought a hike in the development fee (DF) levied on flyers to help fund the construction of three proposed metro stations that are to connect the airport to the city.
AERA or the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority said that the tariff it approved in its January 15, 2013 order would continue until February 28 next year, or until the final tariffs for the second control period is determined. The control period is the time frame during which a rate hike is applicable for an airport operator.
The current tariff rate expired on Monday, November 30.
