The secondary runway at Chennai airport will once again go through a safety assessment after the entire airport was flooded with water from Adyar river last week. Airport director Deepak Shastri said, “Currently, the runway is still available for day operations. We want to do a safety assessment before opening it for night operations.”
The assessment will be carried out by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
After the water receded in the airfield, the officials found that the boundary wall of the airport was damaged at 17 places and temporary fencing was been done to prevent entry of animals.
