The aerospace industry in Telangana got a real boost with in principle agreement between the State Government and the aircraft major Boeing for manufacturing fuselages for Apache choppers at the aerospace special economic zone at Adibhatla on the city outskirts.
The discussions between the Boeing representatives and IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao came at a time when the Government is gearing up to set up three more aerospace and defence parks over the next four years with an estimated Rs. 2,500 crore. Boeing’s foray into the SEZ follows a meeting Mr. Rama Rao had with Boeing’s top representatives during his visit to the United States’ in May last to attract investments in the aerospace sector which, he said, was crucial element in the State’s industrial development policy.
The aerospace SEZ, spread over 500 acres, is already fully functional with Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and its joint venture partners United Technology Corporation, the makers of Sikorsky helicopters and Lockheed Martin, setting up facilities for manufacture of helicopter cabins, aircraft and its components.
