Civil aviation team inspects airport for cargo facilities

INDORE: A team of two members from Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) visited common user domestic cargo terminal on Wednesday at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport. They are expected to give approval to start operation of the long-awaited domestic cargo by this month.

An airport official said the team was satisfied after inspecting domestic cargo at the old terminal of Indore airport. "The team seemed pleased with the facilities at the Centre for Perishable Cargo (CPC). Now they would make a report and send it to their Ahmedabad-based headquarters."

Depending upon approval or suggestions from headquarters on the report follow-up measures would be taken and the report would and be sent to Delhi. "Report would be sent to Airports authority of India (AAI) for a final nod to start domestic cargo service. The process would take about 15 days and the facility can be underway by this month," said an official.

In between the airport had made temporary arrangements for domestic cargo services inside the new airport terminal which has potential to handle around 300 tonnes of cargo a month.
