KEY AVIATION BODY HEADLESS AS PMO TURNS DOWN PICK

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) continues to function without a full-time head after the prime minister's office rejected the candidature of an IPS officer for the job.

The bureau, which looks into all aspects of airport security, including issuing entry passes, has been without a full-time chief since 2012.

In September this year, the civil aviation ministry picked the name of IPS officer AP Maheshwari of the 1984 batch from a list of three candidates suggested by the home ministry. But the prime minister's office turned down the nomination on Tuesday. "The PMO has not given any reason. A rejection means the process will have to be started afresh," said a senior official in the civil aviation ministry.
