Plane was completely air-worthy, says BSF

NEW DELHI: A day after its plane crashed near Delhi airport, the Border Security Force on Wednesday said the aircraft was "completely airworthy" with no problems detected during maintenance and it used to fly 3-4 days in a week. The BSF said the Superking aircraft was used extensively on many occasions and there were no technical issues.
Refuting some reports of excess weight, BSF DG D K Pathak said the aircraft was carrying 'absolutely' stipulated load when it crashed minutes after take-off.
He said technicians check every aircraft after every flight and if there is slightest problem, it is not allowed to take off.
"This aircraft was 20 years' old and in aviation (domain) an aircraft has a life till 40-45 years. Such aircraft is not considered old as required parts are changed from time to time... and the engine overhauled. A major overhauling of the aircraft was done at the Beachcraft factory in Canada about six months ago. Just a day back, it had carried back the officers from Bhuj (from the DG/IG meeting)," Pathak said.
Pathak said the BSF air wing has always made the best efforts to ensure flight safety. "Let us know the cause of the crash. I can say that no stone is left unturned for maintaining aircraft safety. There is absolutely no compromise in safety parameters of flight regulations. Absolutely not," the DG asserted, adding there is dearth of funds for the elite wing.
"Maintenance is a continuous process and there is always requirement of funds for any kind of maintenance or any new acquisition. There is always a gap between requirement and the funds provided. I will not say that we are not getting funds or we are starved of funds. We have been getting funds as and when required," he said.
