Lucknow: : It's called flying high, literally. For a district with a 12 lakh rural population, development in Etawah is more conspicuous than other parts of rural UP. On Tuesday, the district added yet another feather to its cap when its gram panchayat Saifai - the village of the ruling party's first family - was given the night landing facilities at its airport.
The decision, taken by the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday, was necessitated by the frequent VIP movement to and from the airport several times in a year. In February this year, for instance, airpsace above the Saifai airport was abuzz. Sources told TOI nearly 10 flights landed and took off from the airstrip everyday, in a three-day period around the wedding festivities of Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, the grandnephew of Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
