Set to soar

After roads and railways, the NDA government has got to revamping airports. When it scrapped the privatisation of Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Jaipur airports in August, it seemed that airport development had ground to a halt. Now, under an MoU signed between the Airports Authority of India and the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, Changi Airport will be involved in the design, planning, traffic and commercial development, service quality, operations and management of the Ahmedabad and Jaipur airports. The Indian aviation space is hot. During January-October 2015, over 66 million people flew, a 20% rise over the 55 million in 2014 during the same period.
India, with 367 million passengers, is slated to emerge as the world’s third-largest market after China and the US by 2034. A PwC report states the annual increase in Indian airport infrastructure will be 15.4%, around $14 billion over the next decade. Depending on the success of Changi, expect other large airport operators to seek entry.
