TN floods: Air India to operate special flight from Arakkonam to Hyderabad

Over a hundred people have been rescued by teams of Army, Indian Air Force (IAF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has established an air bridge between Tambaram Air Force base and Naval Air base Arrakonam in Chennai to facilitate rescue and relief operations. "Air India will honour and accept Air India tickets issued by AI, travel agent or portal from/to Chennai for travel from/to nearest airport like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Vishakhapatnam, Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Madurai, Kochi, Vijayawada and Tirupati till December 15, without any additional charge", a statement from the airliner said.

Air India said that the special flight will carry 30 of its personnel onboard for logistics, adding the flight would bring back 130 passengers who have been evacuated from the Chennai airport by the IAF personnel.

Water levels in most areas have reached alarmingly risky levels forcing many residents to take refuge on their terrace.
