Port Blair: At a time when people rose up in unison to help the victims of flood hit Chennai, some airlines companies seized the opportunity to fleece the passengers by imposing a hike in airfares.
Quite appreciably, the Islands’ Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen A.K Singh, had taken a prompt action in this regard to bring back stranded passengers from Chennai to Port Blair. On the other hand, some Tour & Travels agent at Port Blair manipulated the air fare and charged heavy amount from the parents of three stranded students who had purchased air tickets for a toral of Rs44646/- each ticket costing Rs14882/- from a travel agent based at Port Blair. The actual fare was Rs. 9546/- only. When one of the students took a print out at the Chennai airport with PNR, the difference of amount was noticed. After arrival of the students on 8th December from Chennai, their parents confronted the travel agent and showed the difference of air fare charged in excess, after lot of heated exchange the travel agent retunred the money.
