AAI to hire ex-defence personnel to deal with staff crunch

In order to cope with acute shortage of staff, Airport Authority of India (AAI) — which manages air navigation in the country — has decided to sought help from the former defence personnel.
An AAI insider said that the hiring on contract of ex-defence personnel is expected to help as they already have some experience in the aviation field, specially those who are closely involved with managing the defence ATCs and terminals.
He added that the candidates are required to be ICAO-compliant and will be trained before being inducted into the organisation on contract basis. The AAI is now in the process of hiring around 200 staffers, a large number of which will be deployed in Mumbai. dna had written extensively about the shortage and how it is compromising with the safety of air fliers.
According to aviation industry experts, though the number of air passengers in India has seen a manifold increase in the last decade, the sector remains grossly understaffed which could lead to disasters.
