Bhubanseswar: Apart from boosting the state's aviation sector by starting intra-state flight operations, local carrier Air Odisha is planning to set up a maintenance, repair and overhauling (MRO) centre here to meet the requirement of small aircraft, choppers and helicopters.
In the absence of MRO centre in the state, carriers are taking their aircraft to Bengaluru, Kolkata and Delhi. This puts additional financial burden on owners apart from being time-consuming.
Air Odisha has decided to approach the state government to provide half an acre near Biju Patnaik International Airport to set up the MRO centre.
According to airport sources, as many 20 private and government choppers, helicopters and aircraft operate from the city airport.
