Mumbai: There should be no compromise of the air space around Mumbai airport, said Bombay high court on Thursday, while directing that a committee be constituted within four weeks to look into the issue of height restrictions.
A bench of Justice V M Kanade and Justice Revati Mohite-Dere were informed by petitioner Yeshwant Shenoy that despite the court's October 30 order, a committee was not formed. Shenoy's PIL highlighted air safety violations. HC had directed that a committee headed by Justice (Retd) S R Sathe be set up. The other members were representatives of air traffic management, secretary, civil aviation ministry, Mumbai International Airport Ltd, BMC chief and aviation expert Arun Rao.
Shenoy objected to inclusion of MIAL's vice-president (airside management) Prabhat Mahapatra, saying he was member of a panel that allowed a builder to construct near the airport. MIAL's advocate, though, said Mahapatra is most qualified to represent it.
