Airport to shelter surrendered militants

Shillong: After the underground outfit United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) inked an “agreed text of settlement” with Meghalaya government. In the most surprising turn of events, Baljek Airport near Tura which has not seen the light of the day is under the scanner of the State government.

The project which was conceived in 1983 by the Meghalaya government but sanctioned by the Centre 12 years later, as the State government is devising a clever plan to turn the non functional airport into a hub of activity by planning to house surrendered militants there.

Reliable sources informed that preparations were on in full swing to provide shelter to surrendered UALA militants at the Baljek Airport that was built at a cost of Rs.12.52 crore.
