New Delhi: Aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju called on stakeholders to urgently address the shortage of skilled manpower in the sector.
There was a mismatch between the skills available and those required, he said at a workshop in the capital. Stakeholders need to decide on how best to develop skills, taking into consideration the requirements and employment opportunities available in all segments of the sector in India and overseas, he said at the Skill Gap Analysis and Roadmap for Skill Development in the Civil Aviation Sector workshop.
The civil aviation ministry had hired ICRA Management Consultancy Services Ltd. (IMaCS) to undertake a comprehensive skill gap analysis in the civil aviation sector and to formulate a road map.
Its draft report recommended building a robust training and skill building ecosystem through institutional strengthening, infrastructure and capacity planning, training process reengineering, strengthening funding mechanism and monitoring and evaluation.
