Bengaluru is a ‘high-yield business traffic market’

Bengaluru: The airports in New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa have pipped Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) with a larger share of foreign tourists using the e-Tourist Visa facility in December 2015 at a time when the facility has seen a tremendous growth (of 1040.4 per cent between January-December 2015 as compared to the corresponding period in the previous year).
Available to citizens of 113 countries (including the U.K., the U.S. and Australia) at 16 airports in India, the e-Tourist Visa facility is open to international travellers with the ‘sole objective of visiting India for recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business visit’.
KIA officials have termed Bengaluru as a ‘high-yield business traffic market’ with an ‘inherent value proposition in catering to business travellers, tourists and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) market’ with 50 per cent of the passengers being business travellers.
