Biz house proposes air service from Kolhapur

Kolhapur: District guardian minister Chandrakant Patil on Saturday said Ghodawat Enterprises Ltd has expressed interest in starting air service from the Kolhapur to various cities in the state.
Patil said he would take up the issue with the chief minister for making provisions to start air service from Kolhapur airport, which is currently lying idle.
The airport had a scheduled flight service in 2010. According to Airport Authority of India (AAI), it has a daily average passenger strength of 60.
Patil said, "It is true that the state government does not want to start any service that would fizzle out soon. There has been some financial support for airport development, but due to some technical issues, the expansion of the airport has been delayed. The expansion is aimed at enhancing handling capacity of airport, where large size aircraft can land."
He said the Kolhapur airport is proposed to be developed in such a way that it will have night landing facility. "We will bring some aircraft for night parking. It will generate huge revenue for the Kolhapur airport, which, in turn, would generate employment in the district in coming years," Patil said.
