Dance, Music Fest at Chennai Airport

Chennai:  International travellers at Chennai Airport were in for a surprise on Wednesday as the usual hustle bustle in the airport was transformed into a festive atmosphere with folk artistes from Tamil Nadu performing at the New International Security Area.

Taking a cue from other airports, Airport Authority of India, Chennai, director Deepak Shastri hit upon the idea to popularise Tamil culture during the festival season of Pongal as well as Margazhi Music festival.

“I have been to other airports and saw how Chattrapati Shivaji Airport in Mumbai, Kolkata airport as well as other international airports are trying to propagate their culture. So I thought of organising similar thing in Chennai airport,” said Shastri.

This is the first time Chennai airport is organising such a cultural extravaganza inside the airport.

Folk artistes of Madurai Iyyah Troupe performed typical Tamil folk arts like Poikkal Kudirai, Mayilattam on Thursday.
