DRI Seizes 4.65 Kg Gold at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad:   In yet another instance revealing the involvement of airport insiders in smuggling of gold at the RGIA in Shamshabad, the sleuths of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Friday seized 4.65 kg gold and apprehended two persons including a ground handling staffer.

The gold in the form of biscuits was concealed in several cigarette packets kept in a bag. Officials recovered as many as 40 gold biscuits, worth about Rs 1.21 crore.

The passenger who arrived by a Qatar Airways flight from Dubai on Thursday midnight handed over the bag to one of the ground handling staffers posted at the airport. The staff member belongs to the Menzies Bobba ground handling services. Officials, who got a wind of the smuggling attempt, took the passenger and the staffer into custody.
