‘Feb 1 to 7 is cheapest time for air travel, Dec is steepest’

Mumbai: Anyone who has ever bought an airline ticket would know that the earlier one books, the lower the airfare would be. But how early should one book? The answer to that depends on the destination one is flying to. If an analysis done by an online search engine is to be believed, then Indians who want to net a bargain should typically book their flights 18 weeks in advance.
"While February is the cheapest month to travel, the period between February 1 and February 7 is the cheapest to fly out of India. For those planning their travel in the second half of the year, flight tickets will be at their peak in August and the first week of December will be the most expensive," said the study.
"The results reveal that Indian travellers who wish to bag a bargain flight should typically look at booking flights 18 weeks in advance on an average," it added. The results also found that the best time to book varies a great deal from destination to destination. For instance, flights for France should be booked 14 weeks in advance while travellers keen on the US should consider booking 19 weeks in advance for the cheapest fares.
