In Times of Terror, Liquor Bottle Sparks Bomb Scare in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A panic broke out on Friday after a man spotted a package near Cauvery cinema, thought it was a bomb and called the police.

After three hours of nail-biting action, it turned out the object in question was just an almost-empty bottle of liquor, most likely of Japanese origin.
Before the crowd could heave a sigh of relief, hundreds of policemen, including specialists from various branches, had converged on the spot and carefully worked on unwrapping the package.
It all started when Veerabadraswamy, who was cleaning his house near the transformer, noticed the tangled string around the package, and mistook it for a wire.
The news spread like wildfire. Vyalikaval and Sadashivanagar police arrived and cordoned off the place. Vehicular and pedestrian movement was barred between Cauvery junction and Bhashyam Circle. The police also got the power supply switched off, just in case.
Fire personnel and a KSRP battalion joined the policemen. Next to arrive were the dog and bomb squads.
Hours later, a relieved police chief described it a false alarm and said his men would check CCTV footage to find out who had placed the object there.
