Mock security drill held at Asr airport

Amritsar: A mock drill under the Counter-Terrorist Contingency (CTC) Plan was today conducted to check the preparedness of various agencies at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport.
The 45-minute long drill concluded peacefully. Airport director Venkateshwar Rao said the mock drill was conducted under the CTC Plan and checked the alertness of various agencies posted at the airport. In the wake of the terrorist attack at the air force base in the neighbouring Pathankot district, the authorities at the Amritsar airport have already stepped up security to high alert.
Entry of all visitors except passengers is strictly prohibited at the airport from today till January 31. Even movement of vehicles has been restricted while the CISF has deployed more combatants.
Paid entry to the departure lounge has been banned. Except passengers and officials, no other person can enter the airport terminal building.
Last time, the security was tightened in August, following an alert sounded by the Intelligence Bureau immediately after the attack at the civilian and police installations by three terrorists allegedly from Pakistan. One of the sites of the attack was a police station in Dinanagar subdivision in the border district of Gurdaspur.
