Showing Hollande's flight, AAI says Chandigarh ready for int'l trips

Chandigarh: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Wednesday showed the visit of French President Francois Hollande as a proof of Chandigarh airport's capability to handle international flights.
Responding to a petition filed against the delay in starting international flights, the AAI submitted before the Punjab and Haryana high court that the new airport had all facilities, including two aero bridges, baggage conveyors, 48 check-in counters, prepaid taxi counter, snack bar, visitors' entry ticket counters and car parking, to handle foreign flights.
"Chandigarh international airport has been operational, which can be assessed from the fact that the aeroplane of the President of France arrived there and was handled by the Air Force due to the protocol. Therefore, it cannot be said that the airport is not ready for international flights," said the AAI in response to the allegations that airport is not well equipped.
