Skipping court dates in defamation case costs Praful Patel Rs 3000

Mumbai: A Bhoiwada Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Thursday asked former union civil aviation minister, Praful Patel to pay up Rs 3,000 as adjournment cost for not appearing in court and seeking an adjournment through his lawyer in a defamation case that he had filed against former Air India director Jitender Bhargava over the book Descent of Air India.
Metropolitan Magistrate V P Adone of the 62nd court imposed the cost of adjournment after Patel's lawyers sought an exemption for him from appearing in court and sought an adjournment. Patel is being represented by advocate Satish Manishinde, who told Mumbai Mirror that the former union minister was travelling overseas on official work as he was also the president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The defamation case revolves around Bhargava's controversial book entitled The Descent of Air India in which he had chronicled the diminution of the national carrier through certain 'reckless and motivated' decisions taken between 2004 and 2008. During this period, Patel was the union civil aviation minister while V Thulasidas was the chairman of Air India. Bhargava had penned the book post his retirement.
