Visitors barred from entering airport over security fears

Aurangabad: Friends and relatives accompanying travellers to the Aurangabad airport will now not be able to entry the lobby and lounge.
The decision to stop the sale of entry tickets to the relatives and friends of air travellers was taken on Wednesday after a review of the security arrangements in the run-up to the Republic Day. The city police chief visited the airport and reviewed the security arrangements with special focus on the anti-aircraft hijack apparatus.
Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar conducted a closed-door meeting with the Central Industrial Security Force and the airport authority officials after examining the security arrangements.
Sources said the Union home ministry has issued a high alert with specific inputs about possible terror attacks at key installations in the country. "In view of the R-Day celebrations and the recent Pathankot terror attack, the security was reviewed and necessary steps are being taken with respect to traffic movement and parking at the airport," Kumar told TOI.
