Work, selfies at 35,000 feet, more travellers look for in-flight Wi-Fi

Pune: Nandita Mahadevia, a 28-year-old marketing professional, is particular about what she carries with her on long flights.
Once on board, she starts taking pictures and posting them on social media immediately. Her check-ins do not mention a location, rather the name of her flight and route.
Mahadevia is among the growing number of travellers who prefer to surf the web while flying.
"It is a different feeling when I am posting on Instagram and Facebook and interacting with my friends and families on WhatsApp from 35,000 feet in the air. While youngsters indulge in selfies and the older passengers check their emails," she pointed out.
A survey called the Egencia/Expedia Mobile Behavior Mobile Index revealed that 46% of the Indians use in-flight Wi-Fi facility whenever it is available. It was conducted on behalf of Expedia by Northstar and covered 9,642 adults aged 18 years and above who own at least one mobile device across 19 countries. The survey markets included North America, Europe, South America and Asia Pacific.
