Chennai: In two separate incidents, DRI officials today seized 2.5 kilograms of gold from two passengers who arrived from Sharjah and Kuala Lumpur respectively.
Airport sources said the value of the gold seized was estimated to be around Rs 75 lakh.
According to sources, during a routine check of the passengers who arrived by the 4.30 a.m flight from Sharjah two kg of gold was found hidden in the right leg knee band of Shakila (38), a passenger from Chennai. The cost of the gold seized is said to be around Rs 60 lakh.
In the other incident, half a kilo of gold was seized from Murali (26) of Ramanathapuram, arrived here at the airport at 12.30 from Kuala Lumpur.
