AAI moots bending of Patna airport runway

Patna: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) experts will explore the possibility of bending the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport runway by 14 degrees and making it 2743-metre long against the existing 2072 metres. This will also help in landing of big aircraft as well solving the problem of shifting the airport to a new location.
Sources said a report in this regard was submitted to the AAI experts. Aviation experts were at the airport 10 days back and surveyed the Chitkohra and Phulwarisharif locality on the east and west side of the runway, respectively. Patna airport's assistant general manager (air traffic management) Santosh Kumar confirmed about the report.
In the concept plan submitted to the aviation experts, the sources said, "The new runway's eastern end would be pushed 500 metres back and far from Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park while the western end would be extended and moved away from the railway tracks. Aviation experts have calculated the runway length to go up to 9,000 feet (2743 metres). But the experts, while studying the feasibility, would keep in mind that this plan for Patna airport would result in relocation of some families at both ends."
