Air India to offer aircraft exterior to states for branding

New Delhi: Air India will now offer its aircraft exterior for branding and promotion. The cash-strapped airline has decided to steer clear of any controversy and allow Indian states to name aircraft after them and put up their logos or picture of any site that they want to promote.

"We are offering one-year contracts to states for this activity. It will be a great opportunity for them to promote their tourist or cultural sites," said a senior AI official while not giving out the rates that will be charged.

A leading Indian jeweller had approached AI about two years back to "cling wrap" an aircraft with its logo. However, at that time the airline did not take up that offer as it did not know how much to charge.
