AirAsia India CEO keeps the guessing game on

New Delhi: AirAsia India CEO Mittu Chandilya is mum about his resignation, but he may still be in control of things at the three-way joint venture budget airline.
When dna got in touch with him, Chandilya said, “I am sorry, I will not be able to comment on whether I have quit or not but I speak on the airline’s plan,” he said.
Rumours of an imminent top management reshuffle, notwithstanding, Chandilya said the company was eagerly awaiting the civil aviation ministry’s decision on 5/20 rule in the national civil aviation policy, expected in a month.
“We are waiting for the decision on 5/20 rule. Our future strategy would depend a lot on it,” said Chandilya.
Early this week, speculation over Chandilya resignation got louder with sources saying that he may not renew his employment contract with the airline company that expires in March.
AirAsia Group chief Tony Fernandes, however, has reportedly refuted the rumour.
“I absolutely deny it. There is no substance to the rumours," he told the media in Mumbai this week.
Arun Bhatia, the third promoter of AirAsia India with 10% stake, also could not confirm the Chandilya’s exit to dna. He also denied any differences between promoters over the issue of control, and said he was unaware of developments at the airline as he had not “attended the last two board meetings”.
