Cops worried over airport security

Kolkata: The Bidhanagar police commissionarate and CISF are a worried lot after Trinamool Congress leader from Pandaveshwar, Narendranath Chakraborty, was arrested from the airport with a firearm. The firearm could only be detected after he put his luggage on the baggage scanner.
"Ideally, the firearm should have been detected earlier," said a police officer. "However, this was not a technical breach as the gun was found immediately at the first possible detection point. Such incidents do happen at times," he added.
The security agencies want the are wishing that they are allowed to go on an immediate shopping spree on the expenses of the airport authorities to purchase more CCTV cameras at the gates, baggage scanners and door frame metal detectors (DFMDs). The security agencies are likely to meet airport authorities and a security audit of the complex is expected to be carried out soon. "The new terminal is extremely safe and passenger-friendly. With regular inputs on IB, we are merely trying to plug the smallest of loopholes," claimed an airport officer.
