Chennai: Domestic airlines carried 76.55 lakh passengers in January 2016 as againt 62.45 lakhs the same month last year, thus recording a growth of 22.58 per cent.
Of the 76.55 lakh passengers, Indigo alone ferried 27.26 lakh passengers followed by Jet Airways (14.32 lakh) and Air India (12.23 lakh). Indigo registered a market share of 35.6% - way ahead of all other carriers.
Air-India had a growth of 4.98% in passenger traffic while private carriers had a growth of 26.61%.
However, Spicejet has the highest passenger load factor of 92.1% when compared to other airlines. However, the passenger load factor during january dipped compared to the previous month as the tourist season ended.
A total of 823 complaints have been registered against the airlines. As per data available, the number of complaints for every 10,000 passengers carried in January has been 1.1. Air-India topped the list recording 2.8 complaints per 10,000 passengers.
The majority of complaints (30.5%) against airlines were flight issues while 28.7% was customer service issues, while 22.4% was on baggage problems and 6.2% on refund on tickets.
