Man held for smuggling gold worth Rs 29 lakh at IGIA

Mohali: A travel agent duped a family from phase 11 of Rs 1.55 lakh on the pretext of selling them five air tickets. The fraud took place in February and an FIR was lodged on Friday. The victim, Amrinder Singh contacted the travel agent after reading a newspaper advertisement. trying to smuggle into the country gold, valued at about Rs 29 lakh, at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
The accused was intercepted by customs officials on his arrival from Bangkok. He was allegedly found involved in smuggling of one kg gold, said Sanjay Mangal, Commissioner of Customs at the IGIA.
