Minority ommission wants mosque in airport

Hyderabad: The State Minorities Commission has sent a show-cause notice to GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd over construction of a mosque on a land parcel within the airport premises.
The commission sent the notice on Monday acting on a petition filed by one Mohammed Riyaz, who had approached the minorities' panel last month.
According to commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan, the petitioner sought its intervention claiming that scores of Muslims workers, including taxi drivers and porters are forced to pray out in the open in 'harsh' weather conditions.
Riyaz has identified himself as a khateeb (who delivers sermons) of the congregation. The petition suggested that as many as 300 Muslims pray on Fridays and around 60 on other days. In addition to sending the show cause notice, the commission also sought GMR's reply to five questions which it described as "just and necessary to decide whether the commission should further inquire into the matter."
